LUNG CANCER IN CANADA

The cancer that affects the lungs of the human body is the preeminent cause of demise by cancer in Canada. The number of people who are affected and being diagnosed are in increasing steep as the year pass by. It is estimated that around half of thousand people are affected by it every week and the amount is said to increase daily. The people who die to it weekly are around four hundred. In the of the above mentioned statistics the number of men who die to it is close thirty and those of women are twenty three. It is also estimated that around one in twelve among men those who live in Canada are bound to be affected by it, whereas in case of women one among sixteen are affected. The causality rate is at a staring rate of one among the thirteen of men who are affected dies due to it. In case of women one among eighteen who are diagnosed by it dies due it. Hence it must be detected as early as possible to save people.

Lung Cancer in Germany

Lung cancer is the preeminent cause of demise in Germany when it comes to case of demise due to cancers alone. The decease due to the above mentioned disease has taken the life of around twenty two thousand in case of the stronger gender whereas in the case of that of the weaker gender id around seven thousand. One the recent development in the curing procedure of Germany’s top cancer centre, has successfully operated on an elderly citizen by using methods that involve the usage of radiation elements. He who was aged in his late sixties went a risky radiation treatment and came out successful in his operation and now leads a life free from the ailment. The analysis of demise pace of lung cancer it shows that the rate of demise in case of men is at decrease even though it is significantly high. While that in the case of women the rate is in a uphill rate even though the number is small compared to those of men. The decease rate of women has doubled in the last three decades

Lung Cancer Detection by ANN

Lung cancer is one of the deadly diseases, the improper diagnosis or prediction should always be avoided by the doctors. But it is reckoned that misdiagnosis of lung cancer is occurring in more increased rate than other diseases. An optimum back propagation training algorithm is estimated which is thereby used to train an artificial neural network. Several ANN back propagation training algorithms are available. The efficiency of the algorithms is mainly an important criterion while opting a particular algorithm. ANN is a massively parallel computational model that simulates the structure and the functional aspects of biological nervous system.  Depending on the activation function used, artificial neuron functionality and properties such as its flexibility and ability are to be learned. Back propagation is generally preferred as an efficient training of an ANN due to the availability of optimum time frame and accuracy. The initialization of weights and biases are done automatically by MATLAB. The Artificial Neural Network uses multiple layers and all the layers are interconnected to each other. Thus ANN approach serves as a better and reliable decision making system in anticipating lung cancers.

Lung Cancer Detection by Imaging

While analyzing lung cancer images manually using software image segmentation techniques are used for revealing finer details in the images. Segmentation literally means, dividing an image into its constituent regions or objects. The segmentation of medical images in 2D, slice by slice has many useful applications for the medical professional. Normally the image segmentation technique depends on the specific algorithms. The above algorithms are based on one of two staple attributes of intensity values discontinuity and same values. The above method includes a valuable technique called thresholding. The lung cancer image from CT or MRI is initially enhanced and then separated using thresholding to bring out or improve the finer details. It converts a gray-scale figure into a binary image. Marker-Controlled Watershed Segmentation approach is also used to perform segmentation in an image. Watershed transform is used along with distance transform to find out the local minima in a particular image. While dealing with lung cancer images this segmentation approach is used to mark the cancer affected segments or blobs from the scan images.

Detection of Lung Cancer Using DIP

To deal with the digital image processing technique in detecting or classifying lung cancer from X-ray, CT or MRI scan images the following steps are considered image enhancement, image segmentation, image features extraction, decision making. Generally, the MATLAB software is preferred for processing an image. Image enhancement is considered as the primary step involved in processing an image, it is the important stage in medical images detection and analysis because of the fact that it improves  the  quality  (clarity)  of  images for  human  viewing,  removing  blurring  and  noise,  increasing  contrast. To work on with medical images, three types of enhancement techniques are made available: Gabor filter, Fast Fourier transform, and Auto enhancement. Gabor filter technique is identified as the best suited enhancing method for 2-D images. CT scan lung cancer images are enhanced with Gabor filter. Depending on the statistical approach the auto enhancement technique, automatically adjusts and enhances the image to optimum levels. The Fourier transform is used in a wide range of applications, such as image analysis, image filtering, image reconstruction and image compression.
